Each row is a decision or a failure you will misdiagnose if you carry instincts from one protocol onto the other.

OSPFv2 versus IS-IS
The same shortest-path idea, two different machines. The differences that bite are election, adjacency, metrics and how an area actually bounds flooding.
Asymmetric versus symmetric IRB
Asymmetric IRB bridges on the egress VTEP using the destination MAC. Symmetric IRB routes on a routed VNI at both ends. The packet walk and the MAC-VRF tables are not interchangeable.
PIM-SM versus Bidir-PIM
Both use an RP and a shared tree. Only SM registers sources and builds (S,G) state. Bidir elects a Designated Forwarder and keeps many-to-many groups on (*,G).
GLBP versus an EVPN anycast gateway
Both use several first-hop routers, but GLBP assigns clients to virtual forwarders through ARP while EVPN makes every attached PE the same local gateway.
